In 1931, Japanese military forces moved into Manchuria. This was the first time since the League had solidified itself that a member nation had militarily occupied parts of another member nation. The failure of the league to act against Japan was an important turning point in the history of the league. In many ways, this would signal the end of the league as an international organization.
