How Many People Are Arriving in the UK Illegally?
Of the 7,805 small boat arrivals who've received an initial decision since 2018, 53% granted asylum or another type of leave to remain. The rest are refused. In the last 12 months alone, 70% of those individuals that have come to our country illegally buy small boats are single men who are effectively economic migrants. They are not genuine asylum seekers. Those who do often have family and connections here, or have been unable to get safely into an asylum system elsewhere. And if you look at the situation of people in Northern France, it is not hard to understand why they want to make a journey there.
