The Black Hole Survival Guide
A black hole is a region in space beyond which not even light can escape. The thing that formed the black hole, maybe it's a collapsing star,. It can no more sit at the event horizon than it can race outward at the speed of light. So, once it gets collapses under its own weight and it forms this region where everything goes dark, it is forced to continue to collapse - leaving behind an empty space with nothing in it.
