Harry S Truman - A History of American Politics

Truman was a machine politician in the truest sense, originally a haberdasher. He rose from a judgeship to the US Senate in the 1934 election. In 1944 he was made FDR's vice presidential nominee in favor of Henry Wallace. The sitting vice president had become increasingly vocal on racial segregation.
