The Helmholtz Resonator Model of Human Whistling
When you whistle, the oral cavity is what's acting as the resonant chamber. This makes whistling look like some sort of strange organ inside the mouth. It feels like the vibrations are coming from the mouth when I whistle. The anterior posterior movements of the tongue play a major role in changing the volume and thus the whistle frequency produced.
