The Paris Parliament - The Real Defenders of the People

The paris parliament was forced to negotiate with the government in 17 87. The radical and conservative factions within the parliament were singing their power wane. A compromise between the crown and the courts had been reached by mid november. In return for dropping controversial land and stamp taxes, the government agreed to call in a states general in five years time. But it would also have to consent to new loans and a revant ventiem tax. If you presume that most members of the first and second estate happen to be avoiding said tax, well You presumed correctly.
