The Importance of Creativity in Psychotherapy
When I think of talent and even in watching America's Got Talent it's the folks that are able to work within some kind of frame but have creativity and flexibility within it that to me is a real mark of talent. When you look at the data we can't find much difference between five-year post-PhD trained psychologist and their students for example in terms of outcome in effect in many studies the students do better. On average they overestimate their effectiveness by 65 percent or so according to one study. We just don't work in a way that's going to lead to better outcomes from our client, says Dr. David Perry.
