Introduction
The small rural property of Hinta Kaifak lay approximately 70km north of the German city of Munich. It was owned and operated by three generations of the Gruber Gabrielle family, fronted by Andreas Gruber and his 72-year-old wife, Cecilia. On April 1, 1922, Victoria's daughter Celie was absent from school - not unusual given she was prone to illness. A mechanic arrived for a scheduled appointment to repair a diesel engine but noticed all doors on the property were locked; he could hear cattle mooing inside stables.
