The Southern Gothic
From Faulkner on, we're talking about a world that the lies tear itself apart and it comes out in bizarre ways. And some of this explodes or implodes or something happens where you see this in Flannery O'Connor too. The Southern Gothic arose as a way looking back to express those, the repressed brutality of the past. It came as a way to expose the racism, the injustice, the violence, the poverty.
