The author's parents were both professors. Ellen Willis was a pro-sex feminist who also wrote a lot about rock and roll. Stanley O'Ranner was, for me, a very ambiguous figure in left cultural study circles. And so of course, their daughter is the perfect inheritor of this ethos.
