In a study by kaper. Capper, nine students were expected to learn the meaning of variability and to be able to compute variants in data sets as a measure of variability. Two groups of students worked different conditions, but for the same amount of time. Under the being told condition, the teacher explained the concept of variants and showed how to compute it in a data set. Subsequently, the student kept practising on various problems and and they received feedback from the teacher. But bear in mind that this is actually a kind of discovery learning pretesting effect.
