How to Pop Your Clogs
In the UK, we would never say pissed to mean annoyed unless we were speaking in American English. To pop your clogs is widely believed to originate from northern factory workers around the time of the industrial revolution. When someone cocked their clogs it meant that the toes of their clogs pointed up in the air as they lay down dead.
