What's a Difficult Book?
If we had to leverage just two writers to be ambassadors for the 20th century, it would be James Joyce and Marcel Proust. Freud is a better imaginative writer, I believe, than a psychologist. He's a better poet. Heck, one could even say he's a better novelist in spirit, of course, than a follow-up. So if you find something difficult, as long as you are trying, it is for you. We do not need understanding to come immediately. That's the pleasure of poetry."
