You were Chief Secretary to the Treasury at the time when the US was lobbying Australia, South Korea, and other countries that had been invited to join its founders just to not do so. Was this something you had been paying attention to because at that point you hadn't been tapped for the bank yet? Very much so. It was an important decision for the coalition. And actually the decision to join the bank from the UK's point of view was one of the very last kind of important decisions that the coalition government made before the election.
