How Did You Become a CPA?

I got into bookkeeping because I couldn't get a job doing anything else. Our city here, Youngstown, Ohio, got absolutely obliterated by the collapse of the steel industry in the late 70s, early 80s and just never really recovered all that well until recently. So at the time the financial crisis hit pretty hard here, but especially hard in the financial markets. The CPA firms and the tax shops and everything just didn't have the ability to keep hiring so I wanted to stay.
