I think hippocampus is very interesting because it seems to be involved in a lot of things. For instance, in memory and spatial navigation,. There are lots of interesting things that we found, like place cells in grid cells or findings which got people like Moser's Nobel Prize. And so this was just natural for me to start thinking about the hippocampal system. But at the same time I was building these mechanistic models and also thinking about how they're going to scale.
