The History of the IBM PC

IBM PC debuted in August 1981, and soon became the most popular personal computer in the world. Microsoft didn't have an operating system at the time, and actually had never developed one before. Bill Gates was happy to supply each of the clones with versions of DOS that were nearly identical to PC DOS. This software, the key to a successful clone, was called MS-DOS.
