The History of Rule 30
Stephen Wolf: I remember back in 1984 or so printing out a giant picture of Rule 30, 2000 generations of Rule 30. On this giant roll of paper printed on one of these printers that was intended for printing out what would turn into masks for an integrated circuit. Dick Feynman and I were both consultants to that company. So I got to see what is Rule 30 do by my sort of cellular commons which produces complicated behavior from a very simple rule.
