The Problems of Knowing Ourself
My father was always trying to convince me that there's no such thing as free well and don't even fool myself with an idea like that. And so, you know, in studying goal selection, I'm kind of studying what you could call the operation of free will. We give our participants a blank sheet of paper and we say, what are you trying to do this semester or in your life? And they have to fill in that blank page with whatever they think makes sense for them. And it makes a difference what they write down. Some of the things people write down are turned out to be things they don't want. So according to my research, it seems more of the case
