I've always had this fear in me of some kind of huge disaster. And the book feels like it's such a distillation of this huge subject. I was thinking about it for a very long time and it was a very real fear. But actually writing it down, once I started it, I couldn't stop and it came really, really quickly. In the book, Dylan is six when the end comes. He's ruin his son. How old were you when you first started to have these worries about the coming apocalypse? Probably about the same age, I think.
