The Hermetic Songwriting on the Grants

I think she's such a study of music history and like she cares so deeply about the details of her songs. Even on this record, some of them are a little bit just like wallpaper. She's saying like Ella Fitzgerald in the air on Fishtail, which is really just kind of like scene setting. I think that these references really open up this sometimes hermetic songwriting on this record but they're not at all hidden. Like they kind of invite you to participate and like to bring in your own associations if you're not familiar.
