The US government and many governments around the world have very, very high debt levels. It may well be repaid the dishonest way by printing a lot of it such that the amount you get paid back is worth a lot less in purchasing power terms. There will be a point at which people can actually opt out - we're already at that point where Bitcoin is extremely liquid as a safe haven.
