The Next Conflict Is Rarely Where You Think It's Going to Be

I was the senior emergency actions officer in the National Military Command Center on the watch team that was on duty on 9-11. We went from that crisis to the, I think an airliner exploded flying out of off-care for less than two weeks later; invading Afghanistan to the Iraq war. If it flashed forward, you know, I took command of an infantry battalion that was actually in the Balkans in Kosovo in 2003. They had, I just see order of this year's, you're deploying to Iraq in six months. And my experience on Iraq from 2004, 2005, it's just all over the map. None of which we predicted two years before that.
