Why Is It Important for a Late-Chin Emperor to Learn English?

The idea of a central figure who can unify and unite disparate communities is something that is very strong throughout the 20th century. A lot of the rituals that are designed around Shuntong's education moving forward are explicitly modeled on British ones. The importance of these sort of central figures, be it the constitutional monarchy or the national leaders, is really a story of China participating in modern processes of global state making.
