The natis recruited what i can only refer to as military art historians. One of the highest ranking members of the knotsy effort of art looting was kai mulman. The germans had this kunstschutz division, which was, they called it an art protection division. And there were german professionals, art professionals, working in italy. They cared very much about preserving these masterpieces by these italian artists. But at the same time, they were tasked with hiding them away from the allies and putting them in danger.
