The Up Special, or High Value Packages Coach
Every night, a traveling post office known as the Up Special makes the 400-mile journey from Glasgow to London. While most of the 12 carriages are mobile sorting offices manned by royal mail staff, second behind the engine is the High Value Packages Coach. By 1963, some HVP coaches have bars on the windows and alarms, but some still travel without them.
