The House of Lords Is a Bloated Second Chamber
When the monarch delivers what we must now call the King's Speech, he does it from a throne in the House of Lords. Labour leader Kia Stommer commissioned former Prime Minister Gordon Brown to produce a blueprint for reforming the upper house. Sarah Sackman, a barrister and Labour prospective parliamentary candidate, advised the Brown Commission on reform. She says: 'The current House of Lords is bloated in size - it's the second largest second chamber anywhere in the world'
