Tony Ben was elected MP for Bristol South in November 1950. A decade later, when his father died, he found he was unable to sit in the Commons. Ellie knows a bit about it because it was something we studied for politics A level. She thinks it must be one of the things that radicalized him as an MP. He came up against the old crusty establishment and he defeated them.
