The Impact of the Catholic Church on European Development
In the Eastern world, that doesn't happen. The church and state are fused; in many cases, the church acts as an arm of the state. And there the state and the religion basically fuse together. So the Catholic Church speaks a lot about moral policy, whether we agree with it or not. It is constantly speaking out on moral issues and it tries to influence the policy of the secular state.
