Many of these accusations weren't made because the people involved actually thought someone was a witch, but instead because of all the bickering and fighting and quarreling that the people of Salem Village just love to get stuck into. So there are so many people who end up being indicted for witchcraft at this time, right? That the governor of the province of Massachusetts by himself, William Fipps, has to step in and he decides that a special court is needed to try all of these accused people. And the first person put on trial was a woman named Bridget Bishop. She had made the rather foolish error of having a bit too much of a good time throughout her life.
