This is one of the themes of Amos, that God does things and it's our choice to respond. In Israel's history in their covenantal story, these are acts of love and deliverance that he reaches out to Israel and invites them to respond. He begins by prophesying against Damascus. The Syrians or the people of Damascus have done something so violent to the people of Gilead they likened it to how they process agricultural food. With threshing instruments, this is a sled that has iron spikes on the bottom.
How do our trials allow us to turn to God? Dr. Ryan Davis examines the importance of covenants, prophets, and the essential nature of relationships.
