The Shame of Being Lonely
Mattie: I remember thinking, ah, yeah, this, I must look lonely and that felt quite shameful. We don't want to share with other people that actually am feeling pretty lonely at the moment because that feels too shameful. But as M said, like you could be spending a lot of time around the person and they still feel lonely. And then you're like, why aren't we hanging out? It's kind of really linked to this notion that somehow I'm deficient in my capacity to make connections. Christian was mentioning around the fact that when he felt lonely, he didn't tell his mates back home, that that's what his experience was.
