The Divergence of the Sea Horses

50 million years ago, if that's anaccurate dating for when they split off the others, puts them around the same time as the splitting of rhinos and tapers and actual horses. Yet, this places them in the eocene, and fossils do seem to support that. It is thought that this divergence was likely triggered, or at least affected, by the paleocen - a period of high temperatures. And so it is thought that it sinks up and would have had an effect on fish life,. That could very likely be one of the triggering aspects for this extreme divergence into this weird group. Something changed in resource availability or food options, or something like that that allowed for this
