The History of Pi

The first evidence for pi comes up in the Rhine Papyrus from 1600 BC. The problem may be dated back to 2000 BC, where one is asked to find the area of a circle whose diameter is nine-ket. By wonderful manipulations involving imposing a grid of squares on the circle, they come up with pi being something like three and a seventh. That is the idea that was in Vedic culture, the idea of squaring the circle,. which is run alongside this.
