How Did You Come to Write the Book of the Emperor?
There wasn't a serious history of ravenna. It was fastening to read. I discovered afterwards that there were indeed two or three books in english and many, many books in german about ravenna. But there really wasn't anything that told me how it came to be important and why the imperial panels,. which present the emperor justinian and his wife, theodora, are so prominently displayed in h most, one of the most important churches. And i just thought, this is ridiculous. Why doesn't it tell us how these imperial rulers from constantinople, who never left constantinople except to take the waters in at the hot springs near by, really they did travel
