Is the Party Appearing More Like a Party Apparatus?

The party's own goals of promoting its platform winning elections and ultimately governing are more of a priority than any one individual politicians brand. The current primary system is particularly favorable to presidential candidates who make a kind of symbolic appeal to the way that their partisans see themselves or see that national identity. This didn't necessarily start in the 2000s but it's exacerbated.
