Under the constitution, criminal defendants are entitled to a speedy trial. But Donald Trump's modus operandi here is to delay, delay, delay. He's already filed a motion to delay the trial until after the 2024 election. The Department of Justice has this policy of not undertaking major criminal investigations or trials really close to an election because you don't want to influence conduct of the election.
