The Importance of Referral Questions in Neuropsychology

After receiving the referral question, it's really important for the neuropsychologist to look it over closely and make sure that she understands what the other provider is asking. If the question is unclear, we contact the referral source and ask them to clarify. And then after that, we review patient records. These might include medical, academic, legal records, neuroimaging, like MRIR CT scans,. We also always consider the patient's efforts and engagement in the testing process. This is extremely important because if the patient's not trying their best on all of the tests or there's some other reason why they can't fully give their effort, our results will be invalid.
