The Drifters and the Coasters - Burns' Last Hit
The second Russell Bird session, another drifter's knockoff, was produced by Spectre. That made the top 50, and got Burns' spot on American Bandstand but it was still not the breakout success that Burns needed. Atlantic were having problems. They'd just lost their two biggest male solo vocalists as Bobby Darren and Ray Charles had moved on to other labels. But they had recently signed a gospel singer called Solomon Burke,. He'd had a minor hit with a version of an old country song, just out of reach.
