Globalization Has Benefited Both Sides
Many African economies have not been able to insert themselves into the global system in the way that Asian economies were to ride that wave of globalization. Of course, the history of Africa has been very different. You've had nations that borders were falsely drawn in Berlin at the end of the 19th century. Countries were ruthlessly exploited and then became independent in the 60s and 70s. There is a certain catching up, a nation building that needs to happen.
