The Times' Overuse of Anonymous Sources

The Times had, like many other news organizations, run into trouble and done a disservice to the public when they did the coverage of supposed weapons of mass destruction prior to the invasion of Iraq in the early 2000s. One of the things that all the public editors before me and I took on was the overuse of anonymous sources. So then while I was there, there were a couple of bad mistakes that happened in coverage due to,. well, in stories that hung on a single anonymous source or anonymous sources generally.
