The Myth of Eleanor and the Amazons
The story that eleanor played at being panthessalea queen of the amazons is just another part of the so called black legend. This tale was clearly constructed by historians writing centuries after the fact, combining bits and pieces from twelfth century sources. It lends itself easily to two different negative stereotypes about powerful women, that they're either unattractively masculine, or that they're insatiably hypersexual.
