I think any person who's serious about examining history should have respect for doctrines, even that they radically disagree with. And what he sees Reagan as in many ways is an attempt to smooth over a crisis which conservatives and serious conservative thinkers historically had been very aware of. He presents in attempts to smooth over and pretend that underlying conflicts in American society don't exist rather than a genuine attempt to engage with them. I mean, the racial animist starts being spoken in code as well as directly like all this stuff.
