Censuses Are Important in an Information Society
Censuses are so important that they may be one of the oldest statistical products. In communal societies, you need to know how large your group is. So it's written into our constitution that we do a census in order to become the kind of democratic society that the nders were envisioning. And just the fact that that's done every ten years has meant that the census plays a role far beyond simply allocating seats in congress.
