The Complexity of Repatriation of Benin Bronzes

There are at least three major claimants inside Nigeria to these artworks. One is a proposed Museum of West African Art in Edo State, the National Commission for Museums and Monuments. The current Oba of Benin City, Ewaare II, who is a descendant of the Oba, was exiled by the British in 1897. And so when you choose one of those three claimants, you're making a moral decision. You have to accept it and you have to bear it.
