"I felt so disconnected from who i thought i was. I had this purpose driving me for so long before that, and i felt really untethered and lost when i didn't have it any more," she says. "It took me a very long time to be able to sit down with myself as a writer again." 'We need a new perspective on this whole thing about who gets to decide and determine whether you are legitimate as an artist or not,' the poet adds.
