Why Do We Need to Monitor the Flatworm Population?

It was a tiny, little flatworm all along. And they didn't show up in the poop because they don't have any bones. They were different enough from the amphipod signatures to explain what that missing piece was. But why does it matter? Remember that these salamanders are endangered.
