Beacon Chain was launched at the end of 2020. Mainnet also became what's referred to as the execution layer. Beacon Chain became the consensus layer. But you still had this one-way street from execution layer to consensus layer, but no way to get your date, your 32 ETH and your rewards off of consensus layer. That's why Shanghai and Compel are such a big deal.
