The Greeks had a steam engine, a rose steam engine. And the only application they could think of was to open and close heavy doors. They decided that slaves were cheaper. So those are almost mechanical skills. They weren't based on science. Physiology knew where you had to do this and engineers figured out how to do it. Yeah. Trial and error. That's really the scientific method. But instead, of course, it gets co-opted into institutional science where it stops,. No, no, you don't mess around with the pumps. You just listen to the authorities that tell you what's the right thing. It's clear public health and certain interventions can help people live longer
