The Importance of Headroom in Mixing

I think my style of mixing has always been the all caps grammar. It's probably why I've never been a great mixer. That's why I've ended up graduating or at least gravitating towards this idea of pull everything way down. So you've got an obscene amount of headroom by the end so that small changes on a kick will really cut through in the end and you won't be like grappling or scrappling around for headroom that doesn't exist. The things that I send to mastering peak at like negative three. That's just what I send. Especially if it's someone like hepler Dave Kutch that I trust as a mastering engineer, they're getting 3 dB
